Soojin Choi

Soojin CHOI began her dance training at age 11 in Seoul, Korea. She attended the Yewon Arts Middle School before moving on to the prestigious Seoul Arts High School and ultimately graduating from the highly selective Korea National University of Arts (KNAU) School of Dance.

After winning 1st Prize with Distinction at the 2007 Seoul International Dance Competition, Soojin was offered a fellowship at the world-famous Alvin Ailey School and moved to New York in December 2007.

Soojin has toured internationally, appearing in pieces with the Korea National University of Arts Dance Company, as well as with the MiSook Jeon Dance company. She has won several awards, both for teaching and for choreography, in Korea and North America.

She was a member of the highly acclaimed Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Dance company from 2008-2010 and 2011-2012. Between her two stints in New York, Soojin returned home to perform with the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company before returning to Cedar Lake in 2011.

Soojin has performed works by choreographers Benoit-Swan Pouffer, Crystal Pite, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Ohad Naharin, Jacopo Godani, Jo Strømgren, Regina van Berkel, Hofesh Shechter, Alexander Ekman, Luca Veggetti, Didy Veldman, Jill Johnson.

In 2012 Ms. Choi branched out further, becoming a choreographer and film director, and continues to collaborate with artists from a variety of artistic mediums, including photography, film and fashion.
